Search in the US

Every metro is its own market.

US search is local, crowded and expensive to get wrong. A plumber in Phoenix and a plumber in Philadelphia compete in completely different results, with different competitors, cost-per-click and seasonality. We research keywords by state, metro and neighbourhood, build location pages that earn their place, and keep your business details consistent everywhere buyers, and AI assistants, look you up.

Google leads, but it isn't the whole picture. Microsoft Advertising reaches a meaningful slice of US searchers, Apple Maps and Yelp shape local decisions, and industry directories often rank beside you. For multi-location and franchise brands, we build a structure that scales across dozens of markets without creating thin, duplicate pages.

  • Keyword research by state, metro and ZIP code
  • Google Business Profile, Bing Places and Apple Business Connect
  • Reviews and listings on Yelp and industry directories
  • Location pages for multi-location and service-area businesses
  • Spanish-language content and ads where your audience calls for it

How engagement works

The Bowrand Method, run remotely.

You don't need us down the hall to get a team that feels in-house. You need a clear process, a regular rhythm and full visibility into the work.

  1. Strategy call

A conversation about your goals, your market and what is and isn't working today. We reply within 1 business day of hearing from you.

  2. Audit and roadmap

We review your site, search visibility, ad accounts, tracking and competitors, then sequence priorities by commercial impact.

  3. Launch

Quick wins first, such as paid search, landing pages and local SEO fixes, while the longer-term SEO foundation takes shape.

  4. Report and refine

Monthly reporting and regular calls in your time zone. We double down on what works and move budget away from what doesn't.

This is a high-level overview, not legal advice. Your legal counsel should confirm which rules apply to your business.

Privacy is a state-by-state patchwork

The US has no single, comprehensive federal privacy law for marketing data. Instead, California’s Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, set the pattern, and states including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas and Oregon have passed their own comprehensive laws. Most give consumers the right to know what data you hold, to delete it and to opt out of targeted advertising. For marketing teams, that means a clear privacy policy, a working opt-out, tracking that respects those choices and care with sensitive data such as health information.

Email and text messages

The CAN-SPAM Act sets the rules for commercial email. You don’t need permission before sending, but every message must use accurate header information and honest subject lines, identify itself as an advertisement where required, include a valid physical postal address and give recipients a clear way to opt out, with opt-outs honoured within 10 business days. Text messages are stricter. Under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, marketing texts generally need the recipient’s prior express written consent, so we build consent capture into your forms from the start.

Advertising rules

The Federal Trade Commission expects advertising to be truthful, backed by evidence and clear about material connections. That covers testimonials, influencer posts and reviews, including a ban on fake or purchased reviews. On the platforms, housing, employment and credit ads fall under special categories that restrict audience targeting, and health, finance and legal advertisers face extra review. Healthcare providers also need to be careful with tracking pixels on pages that handle patient information under HIPAA.

Accessibility

Businesses open to the public face a steady stream of website accessibility claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act. There is no single federal website standard for private businesses, but WCAG 2.1 AA is the benchmark most often referenced. We design and build toward it, which also tends to improve usability and search performance for every visitor.

Working across US time zones

Your day sets our rhythm. We schedule calls around your team’s working hours, share dashboards you can open any time, and send written updates so decisions never wait on a meeting. Serving clients across Canada, the USA, Europe, New Zealand & Australia means working across time zones is simply how we operate.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you work with US businesses remotely?

Yes. We serve clients across Canada, the USA, Europe, New Zealand and Australia, and every engagement runs remotely. You get a dedicated account manager, a regular call time that suits your team, shared dashboards and replies within 1 business day, so the work feels in-house without anyone needing to be in the room.

Which US time zones do you work with?

Any of them. At kickoff we agree a standing meeting time that works for your team, whether you're on Eastern, Central, Mountain or Pacific time, and we keep work moving between calls through written updates and live reporting.

How is marketing in the US different from Canada?

The biggest differences are scale and rules. US markets are larger and more competitive, so cost-per-click and content quality bars are often higher. Email works on an opt-out basis under CAN-SPAM, while Canada's CASL requires consent upfront. Privacy is regulated state by state rather than nationally, and some audiences are better reached in Spanish as well as English. We plan for each of these from the start.

How do US state privacy laws affect my marketing?

A growing number of states, led by California, give consumers rights over their personal information, including the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of their data for targeted advertising. In practice that affects your cookie banner, your privacy policy, how pixels and conversion tracking are configured, and whether you honour browser opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control where required. We set up measurement to respect those choices while keeping reporting reliable. Your legal counsel should confirm which laws apply to you.

Can you handle SEO for multi-location or franchise businesses across several states?

Yes. We build a location structure that scales, with a Google Business Profile, location page and local citations for each market, and content that is genuinely specific to each area rather than the same page with a different city name. Reporting rolls up by location, so you can see which markets are growing and where to invest next.

How long does it take to see results?

Paid search can produce useful data within weeks once campaigns and tracking are live. SEO builds over months; ranking on the first page for competitive terms may take six months or more, especially in large US metros, though you should see movement well before then. We tell you upfront what is realistic for your market and report progress every month.
